|Dirtsandwich Goes Brick & Mortar
Opening up shop in downtown Norwalk, OH in late Spring 2013.
In early 2007, I decided to launch my own website. So I searched chriscastle.com and found that it was already taken by a club DJ in Minnesota. And in searching for a unique URL, I remembered the Dwight Yoakum story about a "dirtsandwich". I bought the domain name right then.
View from the proposed store front, Main Street Norwalk.
Dirtsandwich remained a website until 2011, when we set out to build Last Bird Home. We knew that we'd have to make this thing into an LLC and full-fledged publishing firm if we wanted to do it right. And so we decided to call the LLC Dirtsandwich Music Company.
This week, we found a store front in downtown Norwalk, OH where we hope to be opening up shop sometime in late Spring. Dirtsandwich Music Company will serve as a live venue, recording studio, indie label, publishing firm, silk screen shop, coffee joint, video production company, booking agency and small music accessories dealer (strings, capos, etc).
Needless to say, we're as excited about this venture as we've ever been. We hope to build a room where the muse visits often and in great doses. More info as we get it.

Ohio Grown Volume One
Cause it always takes a village.
And sometimes it takes a whole lot of them.
Ohio Grown Volume One is a sixteen-track compilation disc, featuring artists from in and around Huron County, Ohio.
Chris Castle, the Womack Family Band, Kevin Obermeyer, Scott Stiert, Tommy Christian, Emily Keener, Bradley Mayer, Chad Miller, the Relations, Grandpa BB, Allen Carder and Chu Dat Frawg all lent their talents to the project, which was recorded and mixed in an 8 x 12' Blanket Fort in north central Ohio from November through February.
The disc has already been added by stations as far-reaching as Ohio, Michigan, France, Germany, Finland and Australia. We celebrated the official release on March 9th with a live show at the Red Iron (Wellington, OH) to more than 300 people.
No one performed the Harlem Shake.

Available at the Dirtsandwich Online Store.
Nine Months on the Americana Radio Charts
Last Bird Home first entered the Roots Music Report Chart in the second week of January. Within a week, the disc had also appeared on the Roots 66, AMA and FAR charts, reaching peak positions of #5 on the Roots Music Report Chart, #7 on the Roots 66 Chart, and #26 on both the FAR and AMA internet charts.
The album last charted at Roots 66, holding their #65 spot until September 5th- nine long months after its initial radio release. As a garage-run label with no outside radio promoter, we were blessed to have the support of so many Americana music directors and DJs.
We were also blessed to have Justin Guip at Levon Helm Studios for tracking and mixing, Dave McNair at Sterling Sound for mastering, and the many talented musicians who lent their gifts to the record: the Band's Garth Hudson, Sister Maud Hudson, Tommy Ramone (the Ramones), Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm Band), Gabriel Butterfield, the Womack Family Band, Carl Franklin, Sandy Allen, Daphne Lee Martin, Brendan McDonough and Chase Castle.
